WEAVING & FIBERS

Weaving & Fibers is a growing program at the Appalachian Artisan Center with workshops in tapestry weaving, potholder weaving, bead weaving, macrame, quilting, embroidery, and basket weaving. Workshops are offered throughout the year and can be found on our website or on Facebook.

Anthony Carter is a fiber artist from Carter County, KY. He began his journey as a weaver while in a drug treatment program in 2020. He is a Culture of Recovery program graduate at the Appalachian Artisan Center where he was introduced to his mentor and Master Weaver, Bob Young.

Since the start of his apprenticeship, he has experimented with creating placemats, table runners, pillows and different styles of wall hangings inspired by landscapes he has seen during his travels around the country for work.

Anthony now teaches his own weaving workshops as a way of giving back to the programs that helped him through his own recovery. Healing through the arts has become extremely important to him and he has made it his goal to carry that with him and pass on what he has learned to others who are making their way through their own journey of recovery.
